Cebu City, Philippines – March 2, 2025 – Girls Running in Trails (GRIT) Cebu took inclusivity in sports to new heights last Sunday in the scenic trails of Buhisan, Cebu City. The event welcomed participants from ages 2 to 65, ranging from first-time runners to seasoned athletes, reinforcing its vision of creating a supportive and accessible trail running community for all.
More than just a race, GRIT Cebu served as a platform to inspire and connect individuals through trail running, proving that the sport is for everyone. Parents ran alongside their children, beginners received encouragement from experienced runners, and the community came together to celebrate resilience, passion, and camaraderie.

“This is exactly what we envisioned—330 lovely smiles and giant hugs,” said Andrea Gaurana, PHILTRA’s head for GRIT 2025, as she thanked everyone who was part of the event. Andrea was a product of the 2024 GRIT initiative to empower women trail runners into leadership roles. This year, she took on the responsibility of heading the nationwide movement and has passed the baton to fellow Cebu Mountain Goat’s Maria Jessa to lead, with Kate handling technical directing while Lyra continues to lead the kids’ race.

GRIT Cebu Raises P34,000 to Support Grassroots Trail Running Initiatives with Focus on Women
GRIT is more than competition; it’s about fostering a culture where everyone belongs. The event, with 340 participants, also raised funds for GRIT Visayas’ grassroots initiative to support remote communities in Antique. This project launches in May, inspired by the story of Angelica Alejo, a national team member from the mountains of Madjaas, who took big leaps when she started running beyond the mountain she calls home.
