Watson’s Health and Wellness Expo Highlights Philtra’s Commitment to Inclusivity Through Trail Running

February 4, 2024, Megatrade Hall 1-3, SM Megamall– Philtra is committed to advocate trail running for health and wellness. Philtra’s National Team members and officers shared their insights and expertise at the Watson’s Health and Wellness Expo on Getting Outdoors. The expo, that took place from February 1-4 provided a platform for individuals and organizations to connect and engage in discussions about holistic well-being with booth and activities that offered exciting treats, promos and activities for all.
Trail running has gained popularity in recent years, offering a unique blend of physical exercise, mental rejuvenation, and a connection with nature. Philtra believes that everyone, regardless of age, background, or fitness level, can benefit from the joys of trail running.

The panel was led by Karl Bautista, a trail runner and a DEI advocate and Philtra’s secretary general, Tin Ferrera.  Tin started by emphasizing the inclusive nature of this exhilarating outdoor activity and how it not only provides challenge for an individual but builds unique connection with the community and with nature. “Karl and I actually became friends merely from crossing each others path on the trails”.  Karl shared that as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, the sports was initially intimidating but the welcoming community helped him navigate through.  The panel discussed how the sports embraces diversity and creates an environment where everyone feels welcome but emphasized the importance of being ready for the sports to maximize its enjoyment.

Philtra shared insights on the essential skills and preparations needed to embark on a trail running journey. From proper footwear to hydration strategies, the audience gained practical tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience on the trails.  During the panel, Arnie Macaneras shared about the essential gear for trail running while Randolf Gonzales shared how he ensures he is hydrated and energized throughout  every time he goes out.  Planning is key, this is what Angelie shared.  Philtra’s president further shared the emergency essentials one should always have and how to be aware of the surroundings and trails when venturing out.

Despite the challenging nature of the sports, it is an activity that everyone can do.  Young trail runners Luisa Cuerpo and Lance Naral shared that they get inspired from their friends and parents, respectively, and started to tag along as early as 7 years old.  And they have developed the love for the sports on their own.

Philtra recognizes the power of community in promoting health and wellness. Trail running fosters a sense of camaraderie and encourages individuals to support and uplift each other in their fitness journeys.  We hope everyone gets inspiration to GET OUTDOORS, BLAZE THE TRAILS.

We thank the Watson’s Health and Wellness Expo for providing the valuable opportunity for Philippine trail runners and individuals to engage with experts like Philtra and gain insights into leading a healthier and more active lifestyle.
